The power of a day in the outdoors...

So today I decided to do something I have planned on for over a year - Snowshoe into a local river to fish for steelhead.  I have wanted to go to some water that has not been hit and just be with nature and God.  While I only got to fish a little today because I was at a new place and partly scouting it out, it felt good.  It got me back to why I do what I do in the outdoors.  It's because it truly does refresh me.  It brings me back a better husband, father and man for society.

Today I reflected on whether it is the sound of the river, the animals, the sunshine or the quietness of "just being"?  I decided it is all of that and more!  It doesn't matter if I don't catch any fish (although the sometimes competitive side of me disagrees here sometimes).  It is the magic that happens.  A unique magic that is different every time.  Whether I am alone or with someone who needs a day out, that magic happens!

I continue to believe in the power of the outdoors to get people righted in their mind, psyche, with God or whatever their purpose.  He and I talked today and we discussed why so many of we men have issues when our sons are diagnosed with autism.  We discussed that men are scared of the unknown, that they need to grieve in their way and that I need to continue to help.

Come to think about it, this applies to many areas in men's lives.....

So next time you need to reset, get outdoors and do what you love to do... or do nothing and just be.....

Take care and God Bless!
